Introduction for the Student

The second edition of Business: a Student’s Guide is dedicated to all students and staff who are pursuing GNVQ business at Advanced Level.

A whole army of educational administrators, curriculum designers, publishers, textbook writers, teachers and their support staff have worked hard to develop a stimulating and exciting GNVQ way of preparing students who width to make a career in the world of business or public administration.

I very much share their enthusiasm for the GNVQ  Business Awards and , with the much appreciated help and support of my wife, my publishers, contributors and many organizations who have made illustrative material available, have campaigned hard to produce a textbook which follows directly and comprehensively the GNVQ specification for the mandatory Advanced Level Units. The text also provides both helpful build up tasks and a series of evidence building activities at the end of each unit which cover all the Elements and Performance Criteria of the Advanced Level in Business.

The following notes are intended to assist you in making the most of this second edition, which has been extensively revised to meet the finalized and current programmed specifications. I wish you every success, both in your course of study and in your future career.

Structure and contents

Business: a student’s Guide 2^nd edition comprises eight Units, which correspond to the mandatory units of Advanced Business and share their titles. Each of the text’s Units contains information and material which relate to the GNVQ Unit elements in these ways:

 To provide the detailed knowledge and understanding which relate to the Units’ specifications and which provide a source of reference in preparation for the externally assessed Unit Tests

To supply insights and explanations of current business procedures, practices and approaches through the inclusion of models, diagrams, examples and specimen documents etc.

To encourage lively discussion and debate about current business issues and developments

To include opportunities for both individual and group assignments and activities from which our will practice and acquire skills you will need throughout your business career.
