EARLY LIFE

“My companions are like stars to guide to the right path. If they are followed you are sure to reach the right destination.” This is a saying of the Prophet of Islam (pbuh). Those companions shined like bright stars. Some of them sparkled like the sun in the firmament of Islam.

Hazrat Abu Bakr’s name is counted as one such radiant sun whose light will continue to illumine believers hearts for ever. His enlighten ting career shall serve as a stimulating source of inspiration till the Day of Resurrection.

The early history of the birth and childhood of Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) is not very clearly known owing to general ignorance which prevailed in Arabia at the inception of Islam. However, it is unanimously accepted and agreed upon that Hazrat Abu Bakr was the light of the tribe of Banu Tamim which  enjoyed prominence in Arabia.

His Ancestry

In pre-Islamic days he was called Abd al-Kaaba. He was named Abdullah by the Prophet of Islam. The title of Siddiq and the Ateeq became very popular because of love and respect of the people for him. His genealogy dates back to Holy Prophet with Murrah at eighth stage as he was the common ancestor of Hazrat Abu Bakr. He was two years younger than the Holy Prophet of Isalm. Abu Bakr’s father was known as Abu Qahafa who was amongst the nobles of Makkah. But like others he also did not like Islam. Once after having seen Hazrat Ali he is reported to have said that their association had spoiled his son. History does not provide any evidence of atrocity being perpetrated on Abu Bakr by his father like that perpetrated on the neo-converts by their elders. On the conquest of Makkah Abu Qahafa appeared before the Holy Prophet Repenting his faithless life he embraced Islam.

Follower from the beginning

The name of the mother of Hazrat Abu Bakr was Umme-Salma. She was also called Ummul Khair. Her genealogy also united with that of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) at the sixth stage. She had embraced the faith in the earlier stages of the inception of Islam.
